St. Norbert Co-Op
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Overview:
An example of how a grocery store development can activate a corridor and add to the walkability of a neighbourhood. It's modern, grand-entrance design and street edge landscaping helps connect the sidewalk along Pembina with the strong presence of people at the Farmer's Market and Community Centre across the street.
Challenges:
Subject to St. Norbert Urban Design Planned Development Overlay (PDO) guidelines, the site was able to factor in Franco-Manitoban design standards including three large hooded windows, roof edge cornices, and a distinct public entrance with seating along Pembina. Addressing these design considerations helped ensure the development enhances the "Main Street" feel of St. Norbert.
